Home About AM Physio
Mitch from AM Physio in WokinghamAlun Mitchell (Mitch) started his physiotherapy career in 1995 and trained at the School for Physiotherapy at Brunel University, Middlesex. He spent most of his NHS career at the NHS Royal Berkshire and Battle Hospital Trust. Mitch then moved into the private sector, initially at the Berkshire Independent Hospital where he worked alongside orthopaedic consultants as a clinical specialist in the rehabilitation of lower limb, knees, shoulder and hands, before moving to a private clinic in the Wokingham area. Following his move to the private sector he became concerned about how the commercial side of private practice can often take precedence before the patients needs. He then decided to launch his own practice in late 2007, called AM Physio, with the ethos of being able to provide quality care for his patients where that person and their problems come first.

Prior to his physiotherapy career Mitch has had a varied working experience including nine years in the RAF as a marine and aeronautical engineer, two years working for Raleigh International, organising and running expeditions in Borneo then several years in civil aeronautical engineering.

Mitch has a love of all sports and is a former GB athlete in Underwater Hockey having competed at World and European Championships level. He later went on to coach national elite teams. Historically he has also competed in other sports including field hockey, road running, swimming, water polo and these days he enjoys kayaking, skiing and cycling. This past international experience and keen competitiveness in many sports allows Mitch the understanding of what a sports person needs to return to their full potential within their sport, whether it be social or highly competitive.

Specialisms:
  • He has a special interest in lower limb/knee/hip rehabilitation whether it be getting the person back to normal daily life or to high level sports;
  • Having worked at the Reading Shoulder Unit, he has significant experience in shoulder rehabilitation especially rotator cuff repairs, stabilizations, decompressions and joint replacements;
  • As a member of the British Association of Hand Therapist (BAHT) and as a qualified BAHT hand therapist, Mitch works closely with Reading’s orthopaedic hand consultants in non and post operative conditions.
AM Physio’s Philosophy

Mitch is all about “putting the person first beyond all other considerations”.

He believes in clear communication so that the person understands what their problems are in layman’s terms, continuity of care with a strong emphasis on hands on treatment and exercise programmes where appropriate. He always looks to keep up to date with new techniques, research and equipment available to ensure the best possible service and recovery to all his patients.

His aim will always be to not only relieve the symptoms but primarily the root cause to its full resolution. Communication is at the heart of his practice and there will always be open discussions to ensure the correct assessment and diagnosis.

Subject to your approval, Mitch will regularly communicate with your GP and/or consultant during your course of treatment, if required, and at discharge.
